HW Studio Designs the Casa Shi in Morelia by Mexico City

Mexican architecture firm HW Studio designs a hillside home right outside of Mexico City in Morelia dubbed the Casa Shi. It is a 4,735-square-foot home that is made with a balanced visual design blending the "natural and artificial" together. Casa Shi is comprised of a vertical structure that hosts space for circulation and a horizontal volume that features living spaces such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and a kitchen. It has a rectangular and vertical stone-clas section as the main circulation connected to the lower horizontal.
The studio notes, "The stone volume vertically connects the entrance and garages with the rest of the house. Which is nestled within this disruptive white, abstract, and even challenging volume that seeks a visual balance between the natural and artificial. In some Eastern cultures, it is believed that to intensely experience any phenomenon, one must place two opposites together; this house could be an exercise in the meeting of these two opposites: the Baroque mountain teeming with vegetation and these two Platonic volumes."
